Abstract

Antineoplastic drugs have the capability to inhibit the maturation and proliferation of neoplasms.Vincristine belongs to vinca alkaloids (vincristine, vinblastine and vindesine) that were found to arrest cell division in metaphase by inhibiting microtubule formation in the mitotic spindle. It is essential element for treating acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, lymphomas, breast cancer….ect. However vincristine has been used as a model of neurotoxicity in rats due its characteristic potent demyelination of axons and impairing neuronal function.Natural products have a pharmacological or biological activity that can be of therapeutic benefit in treating diseases. Dietary mulberry has been reported to have not only anti oxidative, anti inflammatory, antitumor, and anti diabetic effects, but also cardiovascular, hepatic-, and neuro-protective properties. Mulberry fruits are rich in phenol compounds, including flavonoids, anthocyanins and carotenoids. The study was designed to illustrate the toxicity and teratogenicity of vincristine during perinatal life of Wistar albino rats. Also, illustrate the ameliorative role of Morus nigra fruit extract against the neurotoxicity of vincristine in pregnant mothers and their offspring.
