Abstract

The field of chronic venous disorders was previously suffered from lack of precision in diagnosis, This deficiency led to conflicting reports in the studies of management of these venous problems, at a time when new methods were being offered to improve treatment for both simple and more complicated venous diseases. It was believed that these conflicts could be resolved with precise diagnosis and clarification of the underlying venous problem, from this point was the aim of our study was to assess the role of Multi-detector CT venography as a reliable diagnostic tool in the diagnosis and in the post treatment follow up of chronic venous insufficiency in the lower limbs . This study was performed over a period of 30 months starting from December 2014 till June 2017 , 50 patients were enrolled in the study, they were referred to the Radio-diagnosis & Medical imaging Department at Tanta University Hospital for the evaluation & follow up of their lower limb procedures , Among the 50 patients included in this study ; eighteen of the patients were males and this represented 36 % of the cases while thirty two of the patients were females representing 64 % of cases ; The age of our patients ranged from 25 to 50 years, with a mean age of 37.8 years , The majority of the patients in this study were above the age of 36 years and this was found in 36 patients. Regarding to the risk factors , the most frequent risk factor found in this study was pregnancy and hormonal treatment, Positive history of deep vein thrombosis as a main predisposing leading factor to the development of secondary chronic venous insufficiency was found in 42 patients and this represented 84 % of the cases. The most common presenting symptom was varicose vein and leg pain , followed by skin changes while the most annoying disabling symptom was skin ulceration, it is worth mention all of our patients were presenting with multiple combined symptoms. The CEAP classification (Clinical-Etiology-Anatomy-Pathophysiology) is now adopted world wide to facilitate meaningful communication about CVD and serve as a basis for more scientific analysis of management alternatives, All the patients
