Abstract The aim of this thesis is to present a study for the track components and the price for each one, study of the manufacturing for each track component, determining of the local and imported track components and calculation of the construction cost for one kilometer of track. Hence, estimating of the imported track components percentage and the effect of this percentage on the profitability rates in ENR (Egyptian National Railways), and comparing the construction cost for one kilometer of track in Egypt with the construction cost of one kilometer of track in other countries. The different maintenance methods for tracks and the used equipment, and machines for maintenance works have been studied, also the workshops owned by ENR and the activities of maintenance that are carried out in these workshops, the annual cost of maintenance and construction have been obtained for Egypt and some other countries, hence determining of the percentage of the annual maintenance cost to the annual construction cost for Egypt and some other countries and comparing them with each other.
