Abstract

A novel Nano scale adsorbent was developed from the byproduct of nitrogen fertilizer industry (BNFI) using high-energy ball milling. The XRD patterns of bulk NFIB and Nano scale NFIB demonstrate that both samples are mainly containing high percentage (93 %) of calcite (CaCO3). The SEM and EDX analyses of both samples confirmed XRD results and ascertained that the main component of bulk and Nano scale NFIB is calcite in addition to small percentage of magnesium, silicon, iron, zinc and copper. The specific surface area of nNFIB (225.4 m2g_1) is much higher than that of the bulk NFIB sample (8.8m2g_1).
