Abstract Although advances in dialysis treatment have contributed to improved survival of older adult patients with end-stage renal disease, it may also create, increase, or prolong suffering in geriatric patients. ESRD needs a collaboration of the older adult patients, their caregivers, gertological nurse, and other health team members. Successful dialysis treatment relies on proper patient self-care through adherence to various aspects of the therapy, as attendance to the number of sessions prescribed, restriction of fluid intake, Following dietary guidelines, and adherence to complex medical regimens. Failure to adhere among the older adult patients may lead to increased complication rates and associated costs, decreased quality of life and decreased survival. Self-management support programs of older adults are emphasizing the patient’s central role in managing their illness, maintaining their life roles, managing the negative emotions, and providing there with the necessary knowledge, skills, and confidence to deal with the disease-related with the disease-related problems. Aim of the study : The present study aimed to determine the effect of self-care interventions on adherence with the therapeutic regimen and the health related quality of life of geriatric patients undergouing hemodialysis. Research hypothess : 1- Geriatric Patients undergoing hemodialysis who receive the proposed self-care interventions exhibit higher adherence with the therapeutic regimen. C- 2- Geriatric Patients undergoing hemodialysis who receive the proposed self-care interventions exhibit higher health related quality of life. D- Materials : Research design The study followed a pre-experimental research design (one E- Setting : The study was conducted at the hemodialysis units of the Medical Research institute, Alexandria University and Sharq El Madina hospital affiliated to the ministry of health in Alexandria, Egypt. Subjects :: The study included thirty four (34) geriatric patients aged 60 years and above, undergoing hemodialysis for at least 6 months, have no cognitive impairment, and have no depression or mild depression. |
