Abstract The insecticidal activity of Nitraria retusa Forssk. (Nitraceae) and Echium angustifolium Mill. (Boraginaceae) extracts and isolated compounds was carried out against Aphis craccivora and Bemicia tabaci. Fifty two compounds were identified from the two plants of which nine compounds were isolated β-sitosterol (1), stigmasterol (2), β-Sitosterol -3-O-β-glucoside, isorhamnetin-3-robinobioside, trigonotin A (37), echiumin A (38), echiumin B (39), echiumin C (40) and echiumin D (41) The isolated compounds were identified by different spectroscopic methods such as UV, IR, HRESIMS, GC/MS, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, H-H COSY, HSQC, HMBC and TOCSY. The results of insecticidal activity of extracts and isolated compounds were revealed that butanol extract of N. retusa was the most potent against A. craccivora and B. tabaci as well as, methylene chloride extract of E. angustifolium was the most toxic than other extracts against A. craccivora and B. tabaci. Isorhamnetin-3-O-robinobioside (7) from butanol extract of N. retusa was more toxic than other isolated compounds. Anticancer activity of new compounds (37-41) was investigated using the standard MTT assay against hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG2) and breast cancer (MCF7) cell lines. Compounds 38 and 41 were the most potent cytotoxic on HepG2 and MCF7 cells. |
