Abstract

The present study aimed to assess the nurse’s practical skills provided for pregnant mothers with pre-eclampsia through; assessing nurse’s knowledge about (preeclampsia and eclampsia).A descriptive design with a purposive sample of 54 nurses was included in the study. The study setting was at inpatient units that provide care for pregnant mothers with pre-eclampsia at Ain Shams maternity university hospitals (an urban area). Tools: A structured interviewing questionnaire sheet for nurses; observation nursing checklists and Likert scale to assess mother’s satisfaction regarding nursing care provided during hospitalization. The present study results revealed that the majority of nurses had incorrect knowledge regarding preeclampsia and management of preeclampsia. Consequently this was reflected upon their practical skills so the majority of nurses had incomplete practical skills while providing care of preeclamptic mothers and this study revealed that statistically insignificant differences between studied nurses` knowledge (x2= 1.11, p= 0.292) and practice (x2 = 0.00, p = 1.00)as regards mother’s satisfaction. The study concluded that a few of nurses among the sample had correct knowledge regarding nursing care of pre-eclamptic mothers, and similarly the same result was noticed regarding nursing practical skills provided for pre-eclamptic mothers,.
