Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of T.equi and B. caballi in some Egyptian localities. A panel of 437 equine blood samples representing 146 horses, 286 donkeys and 5 mules was collected from equines during the period from April 2015 to March 2016 using microscopic examination and conventional PCR. Microscopic observation of collected blood samples revealed that T. equi, B. caballi and mixed infection were detected in 36 (8.3%), 21 (4.8%) and 4 (0.9%) equine animals respectively. By application of conventional PCR on 145 samples, molecular prevalence of T. equi, in horses, donkeys and mules was (23.4%), (47.4%) and (20%), respectively, while for B. caballi was (12.5%), (21.1%) and (20%), respectively, and for mixed infection that observed only in donkeys by rate of (6.6%). The sequencing and phylogenetic analysis showed that the sequenced PCR isolates belonged to T.equi. The obtained sequences were deposited in the GeneBank database under accession numbers MF192854, MF192855 and MF192856.
