Abstract

The aim of present study deals with the subsurface geology and hydrocarbon potentialities of the Upper Cretaceous sequence (Bahariya and Abu Roash formations) in SWS Oil Field. The study depends on the use of the available open-hole well log records (Resistivity, SP, GR, Density, Neutron and Sonic) in the form of composite well logs of six wells (SWS - 1, 5, 9, 11, 13 &15) distributed in the SWS field. The data was corrected to the different environmental effects. This data has been carried out through quantitative analyses by means of the TechLog (techlog 1.3@ Schlumberger, 2011) program; Petrel 2011 software program (@ Schlumberger, 2010) and other petroleum-related geological software programs. Thirty two cutting samples and nine core samples were taken from different depths at Bahariya, Abu Roash and Khomen formations to describe the facies types and diagenetic effects.
The effective porosity of Bahariya and Abu Roach formations reach in average from 22.1 and 23.6% and increasing towards the northern part of the SWS Field controlled by facies textural and diageneses processes. The effective porosity of Abu Roash G, F, E, D and A members reach to 22.5, 23.6, 18.2 12.1 and 16.5% respectively. The isoporosity maps of Abu Roash G, F, E, D & A members illustrate the effective porosity values increase from south to north and from centre to east and west. However, the effective porosity of Abu Roash C and B members increase from north central to west and south and reaches to 31.4 and 13.2 %. The effective porosity of Khoman Formation ranges from 16.8 to 20.8% and increase towards the central part of the field.
The volume of shale contents of Bahariya Formation increase towards the central part of the SWS field and reach to 27.75%. The Vshale of Abu Roash G Member increases toward the northern part of the field with a maximum value 27.1% at SWS-9. The shale volume of Abu Roash F, D and B members reach to 21.8, 13.25 and 21% respectively and increase toward the west and east. The Vshale of Abu Roash E Member reaches to 25.6% and increases towards the northeastern and northwestern parts of the field. The volume of shale contents in reservoir of Abu Roash C intervals reach to 30.7% and increase toward the east and central parts. The Vshale of Abu Roash A ranges from 16.4 to 21.2% and increases toward the north and northeast parts. The shale volume of Khoman Formation ranges from 3.2 to 19% and increase toward the west.
