Abstract Superabsorbent polymer composites with three-dimensional network structure have ability to absorb fluids and capture them and release it latter in a controlled way. They also permit molecules of different size (e.g. pharmaceuticals and fertilizers) to diffuse into (loading) and out (release) of its network, so they can be used as delivery systems. In this work, novel superabsorbent polymer composites were prepared by graft copolymerization of different synthetic monomers, acrylic acid and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate onto Sodium alginate and Acrylamide onto Carboxymethyl cellulose in presence of Montmorillonite (MMT) as filler, Potassium persulphate (KPS) as initiator and N,N’-Methylene bisacrylamide (MBA) as crosslinker. The prepared composites were used as controlled-release urea fertilizer and as adsorbent for Crystal violet and Acridine orange dyes as cationic dyes. |
