Abstract

Infertility affects 10-15% of couples. Male factor is
responsible for 60 % of cases and oligospermia represents about
34.14% of infertile males.
Kisspeptin is a relatively newly discovered hormone. The
studies point to its role in regulation of HPG axis. Its role in infertility
disorders is still too much obscure.
We aimed by this study to clarify the role of kisspeptin in
severe oligospermia.
To approach our goal, we selected 22 severe oligospermic
males (patient group) and another 22 normal fertile age matched
males (control group) to compare between them.
In addition to thorough history, clinical examination, semen
analysis; we measured serum FSH, LH, prolactin and total
testosterone as well as serum kisspeptin levels.
Statistical analysis of results showed that:
1. Both groups are age matched.
2. There is no significant diffference regarding testicular volume
in both groups.
3. There are no significant differences regarding serum FSH,
LH, prolactin & total testosterone levels in both groups.
4. Kisspeptin is significantly lower in the severe oligospermic
patients compared to the fertile males.
5. No correlation between kisspeptin & FSH, LH, prolactin and
testosterone.
