Abstract
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common joint disease in the elderly and it is associated with significant physical disability. It is characterized pathologically by both focal loss of articular cartilage and marginal and central new bone formation. The treatment of knee OA is mainly aimed at the alleviation of pain and improvement of joint mobility and function. There are several options for treating of knee osteoarthritis, such as simple analgesics, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, intra-articular injection of glucocorticoids and hyaluronic acid, physiotherapy, and total knee replacement.
