Abstract

Irrigation systems with pumps as the prime deliverer of water play an important part in making vast areas of arid and semiarid land agriculturally productive.Some irrigation pumps come out of service and go into the maintenance shop because of the bearings failure, the packing, impeller fatigue, high vibration level and bent in the pump shaft. This report discusses some common operational-type problems in Rotodynamic pumps and signs of this problems and solutions. Cavitation is a serious operational-type problem that arises from the low pressure in the pump suction side. By preventing cavitation, it will significantly increase operational efficiency and lifespan of the pump. Erosion caused by the presence of solid particles in the pumped fluid is one of the major sources of surface damage to the impeller and casing materials. Pump vibration is one of the serious problems that can result in complete failure of one or more of the pump components. Bearing is one of the important elements in the Pump it is divided to two general classifications; Journal bearings and Rolling element bearings. To preserve the bearing make sure to use appropriate grease that increases the bearing life. Also check the pumps running by journal bearings when the running hours of the pump reach 10,000 hour. This preserves the pump journal bearing in good conditions.
