Abstract
Clinical data on the association of ABO blood groupswith severity of CAD remain controversial.Thisis a cross sectional observational study investigated the association between ABO blood group with the presence and severity of CAD.A total of 678 patients who underwent coronary angiography in Assiut university hospital wereincluded in this study. All patients were assessed for the presence of cardiovascularrisk factors. ABO blood group was determined in all patientsbefore the procedure. The severity of CAD was assessed by the Syntax score. Of these patients 67.3% were males, 43.7% were hypertensive, 34.5% were diabetics, 53.1% had a smoking history, and 28.9%were dyslipidemic. Low, intermediate and highSyntax score was detected in 74.5%, 15.2%, and 10.3% of the patients respectively. A statistically significant increased incidence of O blood group among low syntax score patients (P= 0.021) was detected. Also significantly higher incidence of high SS among non O blood groups (P= 0.021) was found.
However with multivariate regression analysis, non of ABO blood groups nor non O blood groups showed statistical significance and subsequently according to our study ABO blood groups cannot be considered independent predictor of intermediate/high Syntax score.
