Abstract Background: Preterm premature rupture of membranes Procalcitonin (PCT), which is a peptide precursor of the hormone calcitonin, is believed to predict the development of chorioamnionitis in cases of preterm premature rupture of membranes. Aim of the Work: This study aims to assess the accuracy of maternal serum procalcitonin in prediction of intra-amniotic infection in women with pPROM. Patients and Methods: This prospective observational case control study was conducted on seventy four women with singleton pregnancies were included in this study after providing oral informed consent at the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Ain Shams Maternity Hospital and Suez Health Care Insurance Hospital between March and December 2016. Results: Conclusion: from the result of the present study it is concluded that procalcitonin is considered a significant marker for diagnosis and prognosis of chorioamnionitis for further studies and evaluation. Recommendations: Establishing diagnostic criteria for ascending infection in cases of preterm premature rupture of membranes is a must to decrease its complications procalcitonin may be considered as diagnostic marker for chorioamnionitis. |
