Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to identify the diagnostic role of total prostate specific antigen, carcinoma antigen 15-3, estradiol, testosterone levels and also evaluate the variations in serum biochemical profile in breast cancer patients before and after therapy (surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy). In addition, to study the possible effect of diabetes mellitus in breast cancer female patients pre and post-menopause and after different interventions. Immunohistochemistry and scoring for estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2/neu) were carried in tissue of breast cancer female patients after modified radical mastectomy. The present study conducted on 124 female patients with breast cancer and 37 female age matched healthy women serving as a control group. from the present study, it could be concluded that, CA 15-3, serum PSA levels may be used as a non-invasive tumor marker for diagnosis and monitoring the response to different treatments of breast cancer. Different treatments may resulted in increasing or decreasing level of biochemical components of blood. Estradiol and testosterone levels may play important roles in the development of breast cancer in females.
