Abstract Background: Evaluate the value of sonographic measurement of cervical length as a predictor of abortion or delivery within 24 h by misoprostol in second trimester termination of pregnancy (TOP) between 14 and 26 weeks of pregnancy due to various indications. The primary outcome was abortion within 24 h cervical length was measured before transvaginal administration of misoprostol. The effects of cervical length, total misoprostol dose, parity, and gestational age at diagnosis on successful TOP were evaluated. Objective: The aim of current study was to evaluate the value of measurement of cervical length by transvaginal ultrasound as a predictor for the duration of medical secondtrimester pregnancy termination within 24 hours. Patients and Methods: This study was carried out at Ain Shams University Maternity Hospital during the period from 1ST January to 31st December 2017. Results: In our current study, trans-vaginal ultrasonographic assessment was done in 90 pregnant women with secondtrimesteric abortion before attended to induction of abortion. 5 patients not continue in hospital, 1 patient developed severe bleeding and hystrotomy was done). So, all patients in study were 84. Conclusion: In our study, the results revealed an equation (cervical length – parity) that can predict duration of termination. |
