Abstract

planning a propeller flap for leg reconstruction. The aim of this study was to evaluate the value of imaging techniques in propeller flap planning, operative procedures and postoperative outcome to cover various leg defects. Aim of the Study: To study the perforators of each vascular system of the leg by colour Duplex ultrasonography (CDU) and how to choose the proper propeller flap for the different defects of the leg. To make use of the CDU in defining the skin territory of each propeller flap depending on the size of the perforator and the heamodynamics given by the CDU. Patients and Methods: The study was done in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department and Radiology Department of Ain Shams University. It includes two groups; control group and patients group. The study was divided into two parts; Imaging study which was done in both groups and Clinical study which was done only in the second group. Results: Conclusion: Color Duplex imaging provides a higher predictive index of the adequacy of a given perforator, because caliber and hemodynamic characteristics (e,g., flow, velocity and diameter) of that perforator can be observed directly. This information are very essential preoperatively .reducing the rate of complications and loss rate of the flaps. Recommendations: Further studies on a larger scale of patients for longer periods are needed to confirm the results obtained by this work.
