Abstract

In this study , we examined the biological activities and the health benefit effects of the antioxidants substances derived from marine alga Dictyota dichotoma .
A laboratory experiment runned to test antimicrobial activity of ethanol algal extract against three types of gram-positive bacteria , sex of gram- negative bacteria and one unicellular fungi ,where algal extract showed activity against these pathogenic bacteria and fungi species. Accually, Dictyota dichotoma extract showed efficient activity against these pathogens ranged between medium and high inhibition action.
Thus, this study will assess the effect of isolated algal extract of Dictyota dichotoma and chemical constituents of this marine alga on the initiation, promotion and progression of lung injury and pulmonary inflamation in albino rats. Various markers oxidative stress, apoptosis, proliferation and inflammation will be detected to suggest the mechanism of actions of algal constituents and extracts in pre- lung cancer in albino rat.
Also, algal extract of Dictyota dichotoma showed anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor activity against toxic effect of copper sulphate induced rat in lung . Whereas , it was able to reduce the expresion of Bax , Caspas and increase Bcl-2 .In addition to marker oxidative stress (MDA) tissue showed a significant elevation in copper sulphate-injected rats when compared to the normal control group. Cu-treatment with extracted algae significantly ameliorated the increased MDA level. Copper sulphate -injection to experimental rats produced a significant depletion the GSH and GST content in the lung tissues as compared to the normal group. On the other hand, D. dichotoma Cu-administration induced a significant increase in lung GSH and GST content when compared to rats injected with copper sulphate only as depicted
The phycochemistry screening of the ethanolic extract of algal species Dictyota dichotoma showed the prescence of flavonoids, phenols and polysaccharides ,those all antioxi-dants compounds.
