Abstract

This study enrolled 24 patients with different types of facial nerve abnormalities referred from ENT, neurosurgery and neuro-medicine departments at Mansoura University Hospital for radiological assessment. Their ages ranged from (3y-62years) with a mean age= 31.2 year, the commonest age ranged from 30-40 years. Females were more commonly affected than males (62.5%: 37.5%).
The commonest presentation was facial asymmetry (50%) followed by facial numbness and sensori-neural hearing loss (37.5% & 33.3% respectively).
The commonest affected side was the right side (50%) followed by the left one (37.5%), while bilateral affection was seen in (12.5%) of cases.
Seventeen patients underwent MRI study, while sixteen patients underwent HRCT examination and nine patients were examined with both modalities. The patients were screened for having absolute contraindication, relative contraindication and other incidental complicating anatomical variations.
