Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder of multiple etiologies
characterized by chronic hyperglycemia with disturbance of
carbohydrate, lipid and protein metabolisms resulting from defects
in insulin secretion. DM enhanced oxidative stress and lipid
peroxidation due to generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS)
and free radicals, which lead to diabetes complications. Morbidity
& mortality in diabetic animals caused by its complication.
Streptozotocin (STZ) is used to induce diabetes in
experimental animals through its toxic effects in pancreatic β cells
and as a potential inducer of oxidative stress, which produced a
perfect model of diabetes mellitus (DM).
Nowadays, all studies aimed to find natural remedy to DM &
its complication with minimum side effects. C. papaya leaves
aqueous extract exhibited anti-hyperglycemic & anti-hyperlipidimic
properties with hepato-protective effect& nephroprotective effect,
that effect is due to its flavonoids content and vitamin E.
Ninetyclinically healthy albino rats with average 100gm body
weight, were divided randomly into 6 group; GP. (I): 15 normal
control rats as rats kept without treatment. GP. (II): 15diabetic rats
were injected by a single IP STZ in a dose 65 mg/kg BW.GP. (III):
15 rats just received C. papaya leaves aqueous extractall
experimental period by a dose 0.11g/ml.GP. (IV): 15 rats received
firstly C. papaya leaves aqueous extractby a dose 0.11g/ml then
induced diabetes by STZ injection then continue with our extract by.
