Abstract

The study researches the connection amongst People and the urban spaces they occupy; understanding the occupants’ impressions while encountering their surrounding environment. The human concerns were considered then the connection between human senses and architecture was discussed, as the senses are the instruments that partner people to the external environment. The study considers the effect of human identity and emotions and furthermore people’s impression in urban spaces by studying perception and the process of receiving environmental signals and the efficacy on receiving, perception and cognition of the environment, finally urban spaces components was concentrated and how it affects sensation. The study aimed to remind the position of sensory experience in urban design and its forgotten value in perception of urban environment. An analytical study was made through concentrate the connection between the urban space and individuals in six global sensory parks (Sensory Garden of Royal School - The New Mexico School for the Blind & Visually Impaired- Oizumi Ryokuchi Park Osaka, Japan- Toa Payoh Sensory Park -The Garden of Five Senses New Delhi, India -Delta Sensory Gardens, and Delta Center, Ireland. from that point forward, an applied study was coordinated towards the open spaces in Egypt and Al-Azhar park was chosen as a case study where distinctive activity is perceived, from social experiences to business, and political gathers. The open spaces where human beings conduct and inspire about the architectural environment was contemplated with the objective of assessing the impact of architectural attributes in urban spaces on feeling the atmosphere of the urban space through illustration a sensory experience map of Al-Azhar Park. The outcomes from the literature review and the empirical study are urban design guidelines and recommendations for the planners and designers to accomplish a sensory involvement in urban spaces. Different discoveries may incorporate the significance of considering the sense of smell and hearing in the design procedure as the most senses connected to remembering any space, and the significance of considering the safety factor of the open space; as it is the base of any effective urban space.
