Abstract The aim of the present work is to study the behavior of some arylazo cyanoacetamidoacetamide derivatives as corrosion inhibitors for Al in 1 M hydrochloric acid solutions by using chemical method (weightloss) and electrochemical methods (Potentiodynamic polarization- AC impedance spectroscopy- Electrochemical frequency modulation). The obtained results showed that the inhibition efficiency of these inhibitors increased by increasing their concentration and decreased by raising the temperature, so that the adsorption of these derivatives is physical adsorption and follow Temkin isotherm. Some thermodynamic parameters are computed and discussed. The influence of chemical structure of these compounds on their inhibition efficiencies was discussed. Some quantum – chemical quantities were calculated. these calculations were linked to the values of the corrosion results from the electrochemical studies and They were found to be completely consistent. Using the scanning electron microscopy, magnifying images were taken for free metal, in the blanks and different concentrations of inhibitors. It was found that a layer was formed on the surface in the presence of the inhibitors and protect it from corrosion. |
