Abstract

Cochlear implants are implanted electronic hearing devices that electrically stimulate auditory nerve fibers directly by transforming sounds into electric pulses and bypassing the dysfunctioning inner ear. By using cochlear implants; children with severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss are able to regain normal level of hearing. Identifying MMN in cochlear implant recipients provides assessment of the role of central auditory structures in processing of speech stimuli. This study was designed to evaluate tone and speech discrimination in cochlear implant patients using mismatch negativity test. Thirty five children were included in this study. They were selected from patients attending the Audio-Vestibular Unit at Tanta University Hospitals. Subjects were divided into two groups:
