Abstract The present study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of using literature circles approach in developing reading comprehension of novel among third grade students. The participants of this quasi experimental study consisted of 20 students in the third grade Faculty of Education at Beni suef University. They were selected randomly and were assigned to a control group and an experimental one. Five instruments were used in this study, namely a pre/post test, an observation checklist, a reading comprehension questionnaire, a response log, and role sheets. Results of the study revealed that the experimental group implementing literature circles approach outperformed the control group in the post administration of reading comprehension test. Thus it was concluded that using literature circles approach had positive effects on improving reading comprehension of novel. A number of recommendations and suggestions for further research were presented. |
