Abstract The present study was designed to evaluate the effects of repeated oral administration every other day for 4 weeks of Cobalt chloride and protective or therapeutic effects of Moringa oleiferaleaves ethanolic extract against Cobalt Chloride induced effects on erythropoiesis and some related enzymes, erythropoietin hormone, reduced glutathion as an antioxdant agent, iron and the hemolytic markers bilirubin and reticulocyte percentage. In addition, histopathological evaluations of splenic tissues and bone marrow smear were also performed.. This study was carried out using a total number of 40 adult wester female rats which were placed into 5 groups as follows: group 1: Animals of this group (5 rats) neither treated with cobalt chloride nor Moringa Oleifera and used as controls. group 2: Animals of this group (10 rats) were adminstered orally with cobalt chloride at a dose level of 1/100 LD50 (0.766 mg /100gm b.w.t) day after day for 4 weeks. group 3: Animals of this group (5 rats) were treated orally by stomach tube with Moringa leaves extract at a dose level of 800mg/Kg b.wt daily for 6 weeks. group 4 (Pre-treated group):Animals of this group (10 rats) were pre treated orally with Moringa Oliefera leaves extract (800 mg / kg bw.t) alone daily for 2 weeks and then were received Moringa Oliefera leaves extract at 60 minutes before each cobalt chloride administration for extra 4 weeks. |
