Abstract
The aim of this research is to examine the interpretation and translation problems in translating political issues presented by Khouri in the light of Interpretive Theory throughout his novel The Gate of the Sun. Also the research is going to investigate how the Interpretive Theory helps to understand the translation of the political viewpoints into English. Interpretation is an activity of enormous importance in the modern world and has become an established area in language studies, being the main criterion for achieving communication. In the case of Arabic, translations are viewed from a different perspective. The knowledge of the Arabic culture is crucial for Arabic - English translation. Inaccurate translations reveal the mismatches in beliefs and cultural norms between the Western cultures and the Arabic culture. The data of this study is obtained from translation of the Gate of the sun novel indicated that the translator encountered difficulties while translating political issues belonging to Palestine issues such as Situation on Palestine under occupation, Murder of Palestine and Palestinian Refugee Problem. Translation problems faced translator as producing appropriate equivalence and which type of equivalence should be used by the translators. The difficulty of opting for the proper strategy in translation to achieve an adequate translation is another that faced them.
