Abstract

Three experiments were conducted during the period from February 2016 to July 2017 in the Laboratory Animal Unit of Pharmacology Department, Faculty of Pharmacy, British University in Egypt: the first experiment was studying effect of students’ training skills on mice performance, The second experiment was to study behavioral and physiological assessment of the mice performance before and after drug injection and The third experiment was to study effect of enriched transporting method and the maintenance stable groups on mice performance. It was found that mice handled and injected by trained and skilled students shows lower level of total mortality rates and injuries (20%),(20%) respectively than handling and injected by untrained students (90%), (80%) respectively. Mice can be injected several times after the withdrawal time of the injected drug and this expressed by after injection mice show different response to the behavioral tests compared to before injection and with no difference in N/L ratio between before and after injection which indicates that mice physiological parameter did not change with several injections. Mice transported with enriched box containing the same cage bedding shows good behavioral and physiological performance for glucose level (115 and 142 mg/dl) at the beginning and end respectively compared with unenriched plastic jar for glucose level (178 and 277 mg/dl) at the beginning and end respectively due to the stressful and uncomfortable condition which tends the mice to be in abnormal performance, also the higher glucose level in unenriched plastic jar group indicates the stressful and uncomfortable condition. While mice maintained in stable social groups shows less in mortality rates and territorial aggression (10%) for each compared with unstable social group.
