Abstract Alyllrhodanine azo compounds play a central role as chelating agents for a large numbers of metal ions, as they form a stable six-membered ring after complexation with a metal ion. Polymer complexes have received considerable attention in the last decade. The present study involves preparation of 3-allyl-5-(4-arylazo)-2-thioxothiazolidin-4-one (HLn) ligands and polymer metal complexes of M(II) (M = Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Mn(II) and Cd(II)) and Cr(III). M(II) (M = Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Mn(II) and Cd(II)) and Cr(III) polymer complexes have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, electronic spectra, molar conductance magnetic susceptibility, X-ray diffraction analysis and thermogravimetric studies. Chapter 1, contains a literature survey includes the importance and structural chemistry of alyllrhodanine azo compounds and M(II) polymer complexes. Chapter 2, involves materials used and the preparation of 3-allyl-5-(4-arylazo)-2-thioxothiazolidin-4-one (HLn) ligands and polymer metal complexes of M(II) (M = Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Mn(II) and Cd(II)) and Cr(III) as well as analytical techniques. Chapters 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 include on the results and discussion abstracted from this study. |
