Abstract Atopic dermatitis (AD) is the most frequent chronic relapsing, pruritic, inflammatory skin disease of childhood, with onset mainly in the first years of life, but also affects patients of all ages. It is typically an episodic disease of exacerbations (i.e. flares, which may occur as frequently as two or three per month) and remissions. AD is the first manifestation of atopy in many patients who later have allergic rhinitis, asthma or both, a pattern that has been referred to epidemiologically as the atopic march Filaggrin (filament aggregating protein) processed from profilaggrin, plays an essential role in epidermal barrier formation in the stratum corneum which forms the outermost layer of the skin, keeping skin hydrated and acting as a barrier against environmental hazards. In conclusion, The FLG P478S and R501X polymorphisms were associated with increased susceptibility as well as severity of AD. |
