Abstract
The present study deals with lithostratigraphy, microfacies analysis, depositional environments, geochemical analysis and mineralogical significances of the Eocene - the Oligocene carbonates of Al Gabal Al Akhdar City - Libya, limestone rocks constitute the different rock units; The Apollonia, Darnah, Al Bayda, Al Abraq, and Al Faidiyah formations. Detailed field studies include; collecting samples and macrofossils, measuring thickness and describing the lithology of the different formations. Laboratory analyses including thin sections investigation, scanning electron microscopy study for some carbonate rock slabs, X-ray diffraction analysis for carbonate rock powdered materials and geochemical analysis of the major oxides. The outcomes of these analyses enabled to understand the paleoenvironmental trends and depositional history of the stratigraphic succession in the studied area.
