Abstract Diabetic cornea is more liable for corneal decompensation due to decrease in endothelial cell density, percentage of hexagonal cells and increase in cell variability in size and corneal thickness. Diabetic retinopathy is not a factor that affects corneal endothelial parameters. We recommend specular microscopy of the corneal endothelium for any type I diabetics before any intra ocular surgery or prolonged contact lens wear to avoid the risk of corneal decompensation. |
