Abstract Despite the importance of Reconfigurable Manufacturing System (RMS) and the great human involvement in such system, there is only a little research about human involvement or Organizational Factors and their impact on reconfigurable manufacturing systems’ characteristics. In this work, study for human involvement is presented, to design the organization work system as three interrelated areas. These areas are system reconfigurability (flexibility – customization – convertibility – Diagnosability – Responsiveness), human (professionalism – centralisation – formalization – task complexity – training – people skills – motivation – job satisfaction) along with the organization’s external environment (cost – quality level – brand reputation – customer satisfaction – turnover rate – reliability). That is handled by simulation modeling of the RMS variables and their relationships to Organizational Factors using system dynamics. System dynamics approach illustrates the relationships of each variable to other variables. The overall system behavior in different scenarios is used for modeling such systems in order to understand the effect of RMS and Organizational Factors on the change of system response time; as system performance indicator which helps in fulfilling the required responsiveness, agility, and competitiveness. The study is supported by empirical case study and comparison of results of scenarios is performed. This study helps enterprises to simulate and understand the relationship of each organization system design variable on each other, which leads to better organizational work system design, especially when seeking highest system responsiveness to world drastic changes in the recent business environment. |
