Abstract Glaucoma is an important cause of preventable blindness worldwide. Glaucoma management is dependent on identifying disease related functional or structural defects and monitoring their progression over time. In order to increase efficiency and to reduce testing time, for the benefit of the examiner and patients alike, the OCTOPUS parameters were used in compartive manner for the two study groups . In this study, we detected the effect of compliance to medical treatment on visual field of Egyptian patients with POAG . This study composed of the right eyes of 40 patients; 16 were males (40%) and 24 were females (60 %). Perimetry was done for all patients’ right eyes using static strategy of OCTOPUS 900 and all data were collected from the visual fields done at time of presentation and after 3 months later and statistical comparison was done between the3 parameters (MD, MS,LV ) of Octopus 900. SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION The study showed that compliance to medical treatment by the patients had a direct effect on their visual fields. The decrease in the values of the parameters in compliant patients proofed that there is statistical significance between compliance to medical treatment and improvement of the visual fields. Also, the increase in the values of the parameters in non-compliant patients proofed that there is statistical significance between non-compliance to medical treatment and deterioration of the visual fields. By analysis of the data, there is positive correlation between compliance to medical treatment and its effect on the parameters of the visual field for compliant group it is 24.1%and for non-compliant group its 15.8% . So, there is a direct effect of compliance to medical treatment and visual field changes in patients with POAG. |
