Abstract

and conclusion Summarizing our study, it included 35patients divided in to two groups, study group had 16 patients, and the control group having 19 patients, Male dominance was noticed . The most common mode of trauma that presented was blunt trauma 62% followed by penetrating trauma 31% and iatrogenic trauma (5.7%) Uni-portal VATS was used in 8 cases at the study group, also multiports VATS was used at 8 cases . no infection at thr site of port insertion , VATS have been failed at only one patient, on follow up no empyema was noticed Reinsertion of thoracostomy tube was performed on 19 patients , on follow up we noticed 4 cases of empeyma 4 cases of infection at the site of insertion In comparison between the two group in the drainage days that patients need after second intervention, we found that the patients with study group needed days with mean 3.31 day and control group with mean 6.47 day which with significant value. Finally, it is concluded that< Early VATS for evacuation of retained hemothorax is feasible and safe in trauma patients, also VATS evacuation lead to shorter hospital stay and less need for open thoracotomy in comparison to reinsertion of a chest tube.
Uniportal VATS evacuation can lead to similar results as multiport VATS It is recommended that< More studies to be conducted in comparing VATS withe other modalities of treatment clotted haemothorax. More studies with large sample size.
