Abstract The present work was carried out during two season (2013/2014 and 2014/2015 ) in private apiaries located in Luxor governorate. The present work aimed to study the following points:- 1. The production capacity of bee propolis in different months of the year. 2. Effect of external factors(temperature and relative humidity) on propolis collection. 3. Effect of internal factors (colony strength , number of combs and brood area ) on propolis collection. 4. Determination of antioxidant , wax, volatile oils and ash in propolis . 5. The tendency colonies toward propolis collection and the optimal time for propolis harvesting. 6. The amounts of propolis that could be harvested per colony/year. 7. The impact of inducing colonies for propolis production on honey production. On the other hand , the results in the second season 2014/2015 were 42.78,37.18 and 24.71 g/colony/year for Bearaat, Qurna and Menshah districts ,respectively. While the honey yield was 3.00, 6.35 and 3.25 kg /colony/season for Qurna ,Menshah and Bearaat districts ,respectively. On light of the obtained data , it could be concluded that :- 1. June, July and August were the best months of bee propolis collection under Luxor region conditions . 2. The highest mean of colony strenght ,brood area and number of combs was in spring season ,while the lowest mean of colony strenght ,brood area and number of combs was in winter season. 3. The highest ratio of infection with , chalk brood ,sac brood and American foul brood was found in autumn and winter seasons. 4. Increasing of propolis production decreased honey production. |
