Abstract This study was designed to identifY the best radiation therapy regimen for those group of patients who have brain stern and deep-seated brain tumours, that group of tumours which is not usually accessible for surgical excision and even biopsy is not amenable in many patients. The study was carried out in Ain Sham3 Radiation Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Department & Oncology Department in Ain Shams Specialized Hospital in the period between February 1998 and May 2000. Sixty-five (65) patients were eligible to the study in three treatment groups A, B and C. group A received conventional radiotherapy protocol, group B received hyperfractionation radiotherapy protocol wllile group C received chemotherapy in addition to hyperfractionation ndiotherapy. By the end of the study, the median overall survival for all patients (65) in the 3 treatment groups was 12.5 months (9.4 months for group A, 12.5 months for group Band 12.7 months for group C) and the median time for disease progression was 8 months for all patients in the 3 treatment groups (7 months for group A, 8.5 months for group Band 8.5 months for group C). |
