Abstract The a1m of thi s thesis is to utili ze the no ndestructive ne utron activation (NA) method for the a na lys is of si x representative samp l es collecting fro m Abu Rasheid area using the Second Egyptia n Research Reactor (2 MW) in the Atomic Energy Autho ri ty in lnshas. Several strategic a nd important elemen ts a re found in the investa ged samples (Zr, Zn, Mn and Cr). These elements are necessary for many futw-e industria l d evelopme nt. Na tura l rad ioactivi ty levels for eighteen sampl es fi•om Ab u Rusheid Area in So uth Eastern Dese1i of Egypt ha ve been canied out. The concentrations of 238U , 232Th and 4 °K were measw-ed by low back ground spectrosco py using hy per-pure germanium (HPGe) detector. The mea n acti vi t ies due to 238U e26Ra), 232Th and 4°K radionuclid es were found to be 2384 ± 106, 1 240 ± 6.6 and 819 ±53 Bq/kg, respectivel y. The absorbed dose rates due to the natura l radioacti vi ty in the samples under investigation ranged from 745 ± 45 to 3836 ± 53 nG y/h which is hi gher than the permissible limit. The radium equivalent activity varied from 1647 ± 114 to 6172 ± 1 33 Bqlkg. Also, the representative external hazard index va lues were estimated. from X- ray stud y, it is found that all the sa mples contain considerable strategic elements co ncentrations such as Barium, Zinc and iobium |
