Abstract Benign prostatic hyperplasia is the most common benign condition among aging males. Benign prostatic hyperplasia refers to the proliferation of smooth muscle and epithelial cells within the transition zone of the prostate. Alpha1- Adrenergic blockers are the drug class of choice for treatment of voiding symptoms, while anticholinergics are the drug class of choice for treatment of storage symptoms. A combination of the two drug classes would be a reasonable approach treating male patients with both irritative and voiding symptoms. Our study concluded that the combination of solifenacin plus tamsulosin was associated with a benefit on The international prostatic symptom score and maximum flow rate when compared with tamsulosin only. This combination offered significant efficacy and quality of life benefits versus monotherapy with tamsulosin especially in men with both voiding and moderate to severe storage symptoms. |
