Abstract

Aortic root surgery remains a challenge despite major improvements in diagnosis, surgical techniques and available materials in recent years. Different techniques have been adopted because of different pathologies that affect the aortic root and ascending aorta together with the aortic valve. The introduction of composite valve grafts by Bentall and De Bono in 1968 has helped to expand the possibilities of definitive surgical treatment for the aortic root This study was conducted in the department of cardiothoracic surgery in BanhaUniversity and National Heart Institute in order to assess the postoperative and short term (6 months post operative) outcomes in patients who underwent the aortic root operation (45 patients) either Bentall operation (group A= 30 patients) or Tirone David operation (group B= 15 patients). The study was conducted from January 2015 to December 2017 with a mean period of 6 months follow up postoperatively. The mean age of patients in group (A) was 47.1±7.6yearsand in group (B) was 39.3±5.5years. There was male predominance in both groups 40/5We specified the early and short term outcomes ofBentalloperation (group A) and Tirone David operation (group B) and this included the operative data, postoperative morbidityand mortality and follow up of the patients for 6 months with regularvisits after one month, three month and six monthsintervals with clinical examination, chest X-ray, INR and echocardiography
