Abstract

The present study was aimed to investigate the effect of natural plant oils including jojoba oil and extra virgin olive oil on hepatic protection, DNA damaging, genetic expressions and some biochemical parameters in rats. Sixty male albino rats weighting (120 – 140 gm) were divided to six groups’ ten rats each. The negative control group receiving basic diet, control positive group fed basic diet plus injection of carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) 1 ml/ 100 gm B.Wt by s/c route in medial aspect of thigh twice a week for two weeks, jojoba oil group fed basic diet mixed with jojoba oil 2.5%, extra virgin olive oil group fed basic diet mixed with extra virgin olive oil 5%,the jojoba oil group with CCl4 injection and extra virgin olive oil group with CCl4. At day 30th all rats were sacrificed and the analytic procedures were operated. Results showed that CCl4 caused hepatic, renal, genetic dysfunction, changes of lipid profile, proteinogram, antioxidant enzymes alteration and caused tissue damage in histopathological examination of liver and kidneys The Jojoba oil expressed renal protection, maintained lipid profile, albumin, globulin and total protein with in normal values. Jojoba oil enhanced antioxidant system significantly increased GSH and decreased both MDA and AFP. The jojoba groups showed elevation of hepatic enzymes in comparison to the olive groups against the CCl4 toxicity. The jojoba oil caused less amelioration to the DNA damage and the genetic expression than the olive oil treated groups against CCl4 toxicity with less tissue protection than olive oil in histopathological studies.
