Abstract

Twelve male patients were selected for this study from the out patients of
Removable Prosthodontics clinic, Faculty of oral and dental medicine Cairo University. The patients were undergone a randomization process to be divided randomly into two groups identical in number six patients in each group.
group I received two implants supported telescopic overdentures,
group II received four implants supported telescopic overdentures.
The aim for this study was to assess the patient satisfaction with different number of implants two or four, and radiographic films to evaluate the changes of bone height between the two groups over a follow-up period of one year.
Patients were asked to fill-in the questionnaire on intervals of; two weeks post-insertion, three months , six months and twelve months as to assess their level of satisfaction.
Radiographic evaluation was made by taking periapical radiographs using the parallel cone technique, then using the digital Digora system to asses bone height changes between two time intervals; base line at day of insertion and one year later.
The data were collected and statistically analyzed revealing a non-significant difference in patient satisfaction between the two groups, agreeing with the literatures which stated that patient satisfaction is not affected by the number of implants.
The bone height measurements; revealed a significant difference with more bone loss in group I supported by two implants than group II
Concluded from this study:
Patients were equally satisfied in both groups, with increasing the level of satisfaction between two weeks and twelve months.
Telescopic attachments when used with overdentures; revealed good results for patient satisfaction and low maintaining requirements over the follow-up period of one year.
The bone height, was preserved with four implants more than only two implants supported and retained with the telescopic attachments retained over dentures.
