Abstract

Nowadays, the construction industry shares about 7.5 trillion dollars in the business field that account around 13.4 % of all world output, Raymond, B. (2010). Therefore, a massive number of the general construction contractors prefer to outsource construction project activities to the subcontractors, and they only perform the other managerial activates such as, project financing, contract administration with clients, procurement process of equipment and materials, and monitoring the project progress. Hence, the Prequalification process of the construction subcontractor is one of the main essential processes, especially in Egyptian Construction Megaprojects. Therefore, relying only on the lowest price philosophy usually leads to project risks on its’ main objective (time, cost and quality). Consequently, the proposed thesis aims to identify, rank and prioritize the most important criteria that influence the Megaproject Subcontractor selection. Moreover, to determine and produce a practical justification of the most significant criteria that may affect the selection process in-order-to convert them from qualitative into quantitative ones based on “Egyptian Federation for Construction and Building Contractors” (EFCBC) registration rules and conditions. Moreover, it aims to design a framework for an appropriate Megaprojects Subcontractor selection Model by applying the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Analytical Network Process (ANP) approaches. In-order to achieve the research objectives the researcher reviewed the pervious researches and publications concerning the subcontractor selection criteria as well as the Multi- Objectives Decision Making techniques. Also, the research used several tools and techniques during both the theoretical application parts, Such as (questionnaires, the statistical analysis, integrated AHP/ANP model, sensitivity analysis, and the case study) The research results showed that the “The On-Time Delivery of Materials, Failure to complete contract due to financial problems, Sub-contractor’s difficulty in reimbursement, Reputation, and Tender price” are the most significant criteria among all the surveyed (55) criteria which may affect the selection process of the Megaproject subcontractor in Egypt. In addition, the results support the idea of providing the construction industry in Egypt with a project management code that produces guidelines for the prequalification process.
