Abstract

Infertility is one of the major health problems in animals. several conditions can interfere with spermatogenesis and reduce sperm production and quality, Such as Drug treatment ,chemotherapy, toxins and enviromental factors can have harmful effect on spermatogenesis and sperm normal production.
Ciprofloxacin is one of the newer generations of antibacterial agents it belongs to the family of fluoroquinolones with a very broad spectrum against many microbial pathogens and has been approved in more than 100 countries world-wide and The use of fluoroquinolones antibiotics in treatment of human and animal, bacterial infections generate reactive oxygen species which result in oxidative stress and cellular damage.
The present study was designed to investigate the effect of black seeds and ginger on male fertility in male rats treated with ciprofloxacin
Experimental design
After two weeks of acclimatization, rats were weighed and randomly allocated into four equal groups, each of 10 rats as follows:
group 1: Rats received 0.5 ml distilled water using gastric lavage for 60 days
group 2: Rats received ciprofloxacin at dose of 12.5 mg/kg b.wt. orally once daily using gastric lavage for 60 successive days
Group3: Rats received black seed at dose of 500mg/kg b.wt. 2 hours before ciprofloxacin at dose of 12.5 mg/kg b.wt. orally once daily using gastric lavage for 60 successive days.
