Abstract

Cablestayed bridges have become the first choice for engineers and compared with suspended bridges, it requires less material for cables and deck, low maintenance costs and can be erected much easier than suspension bridges. Incase of long spans, the orthotropic steel decks are incorporated with the bridge to reduce the total dead load carried by the main superstructure elements and substructure.OBJECTIVESOFSTUDY:In the design phase of cable stayed bridges, many different options for calibration calculations constructive solutions. Themainresearch objectiveisto decrease the weight of bridge construction and deriveamainprogramtoaccelerate automation of calculations based on modern Finite Element software products.STUDYPROCEDURES:
Thethesisincludesa comparisonbetween four types of longitudinal ribs used in orthotropic steel deck. Many parametersaffect the bridge optimization process are taken into considerations, such asthe number of ribs and floor beams, variations of rib thicknesses and floor beams, steel plate thickness and pylon thickness. The static analysis for each case due to self-weight of bridge elements and equivalent uniform traffic loads is carried out.CONCLUSIONS:This study introduced acomput programused to help designer obtain the optimal solution quickly and accurately for the calculation of cable stayed bridge with orthotropic deck plate on the base of the CSiBridgeprogram and presentation of results in the familiar Excel spreadsheets, which enables the user to analyze the influence of design parameters and allows to simplify and speed up procedures further optimization of the structure.
