Abstract One hundred marketable bulked milk samples were randomly collected from supermarkets and dairy shops in Assiut city, Egypt; for detection of subclinical mastitis using rapid laboratory tests as strip cup test, California mastitis test (CMT) and Whiteside test (WST) as well as chemical and bacteriological examinations. It was found that none of both strip cup and Whiteside tests revealed positive result, while CMT showed that 12% out of the examined milk samples were positive. Among the positive CMT samples, 3 and 9 samples showed +ve and ++ve results, respectively. Koestler number showed that one out of all the examined samples was positive for subclinical mastitis with ++ve for CMT, And all the 12 positive samples for CMT revealed microorganisms as Staph. aureus (in 11 samples), Strept. agalactiae (in 6 samples) and E. coli (in 4 samples). |
