Abstract
Summary and Conclusion
The present work was performed to study the effect of crocin on
letrozole -induced polycystic ovarian syndrome.
Forty female rats were used in this study; these animals were divided
into four main groups (ten rats each).
group I: control group. Received 0.5 ml saline daily by intra peritoneal
injection (IP) and 0.5 ml saline by oral gavage for 21days.
group II: Letrozole- induced PCOS group. Received letrozole 1mg/kg for
21 consecutive days by oral gavage.
group III: Crocin-treated group. Received letrozole with the same dose as
in group II then crocin 50mg/Kg once daily by intraperitoneal
injection for 6weeks.
group IV: standard group. Received letrozole with the same dose as in
group II then clomiphene citrate 1mg/ kg once daily by oral gavage
for 6weeks.
At the end of the experimental period, all animals were sacrificed and
blood samples were collected by cardiac puncture for analysis of:
- Blood glucose level.
- Blood insulin level.
- Insulin resistance (I R)
- Total cholesterol level.
- Blood testosterone level
- Blood estradiol level.
- Blood FSH and LH level.
