Abstract The Western Desert covers about 700,000 square kilometers and accounts for about two-thirds of Egypt’s land area. It spans from the Mediterranean Sea nourth to the Sudanese border and from the Nile River Valley east to the Libyan border. The population density of the nile valley is 1500 persons/km2 in the opposite the population density of the western desert is 5 perons/km2. The yearly population growth rate is average 2%.now in 2017 egypt population is 95 million, by 2050 the population will reach 150 million. then we must start reconstructing the desert because the Nile valley became over crowded by inhabitance. The desert environment is often regarded as a primitive wasteland occasionally occupied by tents of the passing nomads.shelter is a basic necessity of life for all human beings,it should meet the requirements of the place (climate,site conditions and inhabitance needs).while the western desert has a special settlement character,it is consisted of five large oasis. ecological settlement is one of the best solutions for reconstructing the desert using natural resources and by the help of digital software(AUTODESK FLOW DESIGN) we can create sustainable solutions. By using a combination between vernacular architecture and high tech architecture the thesis will introduce a desert settlement proposal in baharia oasis. Egypt is one of the solar belt countries and it is characterized by arid climatic conditions with extremely high temperatures. Solar and wind power are one of the most important natural resources in the desert. One of the most important problems is finding a solution for the lake of water in the desert. |
