Abstract

The present study was carried out to study the effect of prepartum treatment with Vitamin E (Vit E) and selenium (Se) on the incidence of retained fetal membranes (RFM) during summer and winter seasons A total of fifty four (54 pregnant cow were used for the current experiment without any interference period or parturition. This study was conducted at Damietta Province (Damietta city). Animals were divided into two groups (summer and winter ) each group was divided into three sub group: • group(1): animal received no treatment • group (2): animal received a single injection of 15 ml of vitesel norbrook (i.e 1020mg alpha-tocopheryl acetate and 22.5 mg Selenium) 20 days before parturition.• Group(3): animal received double injection of 15 ml of vitesel norbrook, the first at20 days before parturition the second 2days later). The object of this study to Determine the effect of prepartum treatment with Vitamin E (Vit E) and selenium (Se) on the incidence of retained fetal membranes (RFM) during summer and winter seasons.Study the effect of season and different treatment on postpartum level of cortisol and NO level.Study the correlation between serum level of cortisol and NO and retention of the fetal membrane. Finally, Retained placenta effect on reproductive performance of dairy cattle, fertility, conception rate and milk production.
