Abstract The research presents a new approach for designing a kindergarten building, children preferences and aesthetics have been determined to promote a client-based design, they are perceived as the most important user of kindergarten where they spend their most informative years. This approach could combine pedagogical and architectural design guidelines which explained in the theoretical part of the research, The main goal of the study is to improve quality of kindergarten`s physical environment, by identifying wither children can participate in the design process with architects or not and investigating the proper method. Because children have different abilities and competencies, research applies the mosaic approach it is a multi-method model was developed by Clark, it includes both traditional and visual methods, this research applies a new visualization tool within the mosaic approach and expects to successfully communicate the design proposals to children. The Virtual reality presented in the CAVE used as a decision-making tool in the design and planning phase, thus children participate in a higher level of hart`s ladder of participation (Rung 6). As a result, most children determined (modified open-plan) and light color of wall paintings as their preferred design. CAVE has been approved as a successful visualization tool that fits children’s competence and visual perception. |
